The Forest of LL

This is a piece I was working on back in February. I was thinking a lot about trees, the hidden world of roots and the forms that echo so many human parts (nerves, neurons, veins). I'm also interested in ideas and research in plant consciousness and communication.

There are some other things going on here, the forest as origin, and place of hidden desires, also hibernation, fungi, and goddesses.

String Theory

collage on paper, 30 x 40 cm

This piece began with musings about summer memories, and evolved into a reflection about physical pain and the nervous system - which nerves are connected to the jaw, and which ones are connected to the manatees?

A Collage is Born

I made this video to show all of the different elements that go into one collage. It doesn't show the slow process of selecting, cutting, and editing that happens before an image comes together, but that might be a bit boring...

The Other Birth of Venus

One story from Greek Mythology tells us that Aphrodite, the goddess of love, (identified with Venus by the Romans) was born from the white foam produced by the severed genitals of her father Uranus (Heaven), after his son Cronus threw them into the sea. Really the female embodiment of sexual love and the generative powers of nature arose from some balls and water? What about goddess mama?

In this revision the goddess springs from her mother’s belly (hip? womb?) perhaps after a chance encounter with a sexy octopus under a pomegranate tree.
